Welcome to Project Akira! Today, we’re pleased to have a special tour guide, Peter Wilson from MCM.
Originally from the UK, Peter settled in Newport during the late 80s. He has an extensive background in sailing, having covered thousands of miles on the sea while participating in racing, cruising, and high-latitude expeditions. Peter is also an experienced boatbuilder who has worked as a welder/fabricator. He has been part of seven America’s Cup teams, holding various roles ranging from shore manager to design director. Additionally, he serves as a judge and technical advisor for the World Superyacht Awards.
Peter, as the Owner’s representative of Akira, is the best person to give you a tour and share what is unique about the first in the Heesen 57-metre FDHF aluminium series.
Defined by a shapely silhouette that includes an elongated profile and a completely new scoop-shaped stern, her beauty lies within the elegant and contemporary design by Omega Architects, wrapped up in a high-volume 750GT. Akira’s inviting interior has been designed in harmony with her sweeping exterior lines. A free-flowing layout optimised for guests’ experience creates maximum space with minimal effort. Environmentally friendly fabrics, such as wood and leather sit side-by-side with sumptuous materials and high-grade finishes, including metallic accents, dark pewter and glossy veneers. Conceived by British design studio Harrison Eidsgaard, the result is a warm ambience in a contemporary setting.
