Just off the coast of Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, thick “forests” of black coral thrive in the deep waters of the ocean’s twilight zone. Between 30 and 200 metres below the surface, these marine animal forests are extremely difficult to study. Emmanuelle Périé-Bardout and Ghislain Bardout, co-founders of expert diving team Under The Pole, are working with scientists to better understand these “forests” .
