What does the future look like for the forests of the Amazon? Julia Tavares, a plant ecologist joins digital ecologist and fellow National Geographic Explorer Thiago Silva on an epic expedition to the heart of the world’s largest rainforest. When the rivers burst their banks during the rainy season, these flooded forests survive for months submerged by up to 12 metres of water. But the delicate ecosystem is under threat from climate change. Tavares and Silva are studying the wetland trees to discover how they are impacted by increasingly extreme weather conditions.
