Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Xu Beihong’ | Jaeger-LeCoultre

To celebrate the forthcoming Lunar Year of the Horse, the Maison presents the Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Xu Beihong’, a series of three new timepieces in 18k white gold (750/1000). Recognised as the pioneer of modern Chinese painting, Xu Beihong is celebrated for his ink depictions of horses — symbols of vitality, grace and strength in Chinese culture. To reinterpret this iconic equestrian art, the Maison calls upon the mastery of its Métiers Rares™ atelier, uniting guillochage, grand feu enamelling and enamel miniature painting. On the recto, the dial reveals finely executed guilloché beneath translucent enamel colours. On the reverse, an enamel miniature painting demands more than 80 hours of meticulous work, as artisans faithfully reproduce this artist’s brushstrokes on a surface of just 2 cm². By combining engraving, enamelling and painting, the Métiers Rares™ atelier transforms Xu Beihong’s vision into a dialogue of motion, affinity and horological artistry.

The Standing Horse edition reinterprets Xu Beihong’s 1939 painting, a portrait of quiet nobility and latent power. Its dial displays a herringbone guilloché of 120 engraved lines, overlaid with Crimson Dawn Orange grand feu enamel, echoing the warmth of sunrise in the composition.

The Running Horse edition captures the majesty of a galloping steed. Its dial features a sunray guilloché of 120 engraved lines, overlaid with translucent Evergreen Pine Green grand feu enamel — a colour symbolising vitality and resilience. An achievement made possible only by the virtuosity of the Maison’s Métiers Rares™ atelier.

The Two Horses edition evokes harmony and movement through Xu Beihong’s equestrian art, miniaturised in grand feu enamel on the caseback. The dial begins with barley-seed guilloché, engraved line by line with absolute precision, before layers of translucent Distant Mountain Blue enamel are fired to create depth and permanence.
