British provocateur Sarah Lucas’s ‘Bunnies’ roll into Paris

Pre-eminent British sculptor Sarah Lucas established herself as a groundbreaking artist over 30 years ago, as one of the leading Young British Artists. Then and now, her works have been characterized by their raw, sexually humorous, and skeptical exploration of societal norms and gender dynamics. Lucas’s art often incorporates everyday materials such as pantyhose, furniture, and food, challenging conventional taboos and pushing artistic boundaries.

Seen arriving at the Grand Palais Éphémère is Lucas’s SIX CENT SOIXANTE SIX (2023), the latest edition to her ‘Bunny’ series. While early iterations exuded sensuality, abjection, and fragility, more recent iterations emphasize individuality and vitality. Seen here perched atop a yellow Triumph TR6, this duo of Bunnies embodies the lusty glories of middle-aged womanhood.

Sarah Lucas’s, SIX CENT SOIXANTE SIX (2023), is presented by Sadie Coles HQ (London). ‘HAPPY GAS’ Sarah Lucas’s career-spanning survey exhibition is on view at Tate Britain through January 14, 2024.
