_Three creatives chart a course between city and desert, tracing how place, memory, and tradition shape their creative lives_
Art Basel’s Only in Doha film follows artist and food designer Mjay Al Thani, artist Abdulrahman Al Muftah, and fashion designer Yasmin Mansour, as they move through the places that anchor Doha’s cultural ecosystem, including M7 – one of Art Basel Qatar’s main sites – as well as Liwan Design Studios and Labs, the National Museum of Qatar, and Souq Waqif. Beyond the city, the film opens onto the desert landscapes of Zekreet and Umm Bab, whose texture, light, and terrain have become source material for the local artistic community.
In Qatar, the desert, the sea, and the city exist in constant dialogue, and creative practice is inseparable from context. ‘We’re going through a very interesting period,’ says Al Muftah. ‘We’re rediscovering crafts and rediscovering heritage. We are rediscovering what it means to be Arab.’
