Mission Blue Hope Spot Champions Rili Djohani and Wira Sanjaya are working closely with communities in Bali to protect some of the world’s most biodiverse coral reefs. Djohani founded the Coral Triangle Center (CTC) to manage and protect the marine environment and ensure sustainable livelihoods for villagers. Building on Balinese cultural traditions, the CTC has helped change attitudes to marine conservation. The organization contributed to the establishment of a Marine Protected Area (MPA) around the island of Nusa Penida, off the south coast of Bali, which, in 2020, was added to Mission Blue’s global network of Hope Spots.
