In the heart of the timepiece is the dial, the work of 70 hours of detailed craftsmanship. A world map as seen from the North Pole floats on a domed skeleton formed by longitudes and latitudes. Decorated with champlevé enamel, the outline of the continents features miniature-painted details of major landscapes, enhancing the timepiece with intrigue and refinement. Representing the oceans, the dial bed is a disc of vivid blue translucent lacquer applied over a wavy guilloché pattern that suggests the movement of the sea and the lunar influence on its tides. In circular aperture to one side of the map, the Universal Tourbillon appears to float weightlessly above the blue oceans, spinning in 60 seconds.
