I.M. Pei: A Museum on the Water is an intimate look into the creative journey of legendary architect I.M. Pei and his remarkable design of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. Personally invited by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Father Amir, Pei came out of retirement to embark on a profound exploration of the Islamic world in search of inspiration, a journey that led to one of the most iconic cultural landmarks in the region.
Through exclusive interviews and rare archival material, the film traces Pei’s vision, process, and enduring legacy, revealing his deep respect for light, geometry, and tradition. Filmed across Doha, New York, Geneva, Istanbul, and Paris, A Museum on the Water celebrates the harmony between art, architecture, and landscape, and the timeless beauty of a museum that rises from the sea as a monument to Islamic heritage.

يقدّم الفيلم الوثائقي “آي. إم. باي: متحف على الماء” نظرة عميقة إلى الرحلة الإبداعية للمعماري العالمي آي. إم. باي، وقصته الاستثنائية في تصميم متحف الفن الإسلامي في الدوحة، قطر. بدعوة شخصية من صاحب السمو الأمير الوالد الشيخ حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، خرج باي من التقاعد ليبدأ رحلة بحث ملهمة في أرجاء العالم الإسلامي، بحثاً عن مصادر الإلهام التي أثمرت عن أحد أبرز المعالم الثقافية في المنطقة.
من خلال مقابلات حصرية ومواد أرشيفية نادرة، يتتبع الفيلم رؤية باي ونهجه الإبداعي وإرثه الدائم، كاشفاً عن احترامه العميق للنور والهندسة والتراث. صُوّر الفيلم بين الدوحة ونيويورك وجنيف وإسطنبول وباريس، احتفاءً بانسجام الفن والعمارة والطبيعة، وبجمال متحف ينهض من البحر كصرح حديث يجسّد روح التراث الإسلامي.
