For the first time, the C-390 Millennium performed a real firefighting mission. The aircraft, operated by the Brazilian Air Force, was deployed to combat fires in the region of Pantanal, in Brazil. The multi-mission aircraft can be equipped with the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS II), which provides the C-390 Millennium capability to deploying up to 3,000 gallons of water (approximately 11,300 liters), both with and without fire retardant, according to the standard ground cover level criteria and in various types of terrain. With its superior flying qualities coming from its state-of-the-art technology and full fly-by-wire flight controls, this aircraft is extremely effective during firefighting missions, with reduced pilot workload and increased performance.
