Chantal Akerman: Legacy, Memory and Influence / Chantal Akerman : héritage, mémoire et influence
Paris+ par Art Basel 2023, October 21

With Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975) recently ranked by Sight and Sound magazine as the greatest film in the history of cinema, this panel discusses the hugely important figure of Chantal Akerman. Akerman, who professed to being influenced by Michael Snow, Andy Warhol, Jean-Luc Godard, and Jonas Mekas, created a diverse body of work which sits between cinema and contemporary art, blending diaries, travelogues, literary adaptations, manifesto films, and feminist activism. This multifaceted work has had a profound influence on a new generation of artists and its importance is constantly being reassessed. The exhibition Chantal Akerman. Traveling, conceived by Bozar, the Chantal Akerman Foundation and CINEMATEK and produced in collaboration with the Jeu de Paume, will be presented in the Jeu de Paume in autumn 2024.
