Breitling | Navitimer Cosmonaute – Original Piece

It had a short life. But what a life! Astronaut Scott Carpenter’s Navitimer Cosmonaut traveled into space before splashing down in the Atlantic on May 24th, 1962.

Carpenter’s saltwater egress from the capsule, combined with an unplanned-for three-hour exposure to seawater, resulted in a pattern of corrosion that, today, looks like space itself. This unique piece of space history was displayed publicly for the first time on the 60th anniversary of Carpenter’s mission.
