Big Sky, Montana did what Big Sky does best.
Altitude, snow, and a horizon that feels endless – paired, for one weekend, with a gathering that’s less about competition and more about atmosphere. The Fat International Ice Race isn’t really a race at all. It’s closer to a celebration. A coffee and cars, just… stretched to mountain scale.
We arrived with James Pumphrey and a handful of Bentley’s most characterful machines, but quickly found ourselves part of something much broader. A paddock filled with everything from pre-war icons to modern exotics, all sharing the same frozen stage. Porsche royalty parked next to Ferraris, rally legends sitting casually in the snow, and the sort of cars you don’t usually see moving – let alone sliding. Because that’s the point here. These cars aren’t static. They’re used. Properly.
Among it all, Bentley brought something slightly different. Alongside the Speed Six Continuation and Supersports sat the Bentayga X Concept – wider, louder, and fitted with details that make sense only in a place like this. Fat wheels, oversized tyres, and, mounted on the roof, a custom go-kart built for the occasion. Less statement piece, more proof that not everything needs to take itself too seriously.
And that’s what defines this event.
Not lap times or podiums, but atmosphere. The people. The shared understanding that cars are better when they’re driven – especially when conditions say otherwise. A Ferrari Enzo pushed from the snow. A pre-war Bentley drawing a crowd. Modern performance cars being explored in ways they rarely are.
Spend enough time here and it all feels refreshingly simple – less polished, more human. A reminder that driving, at its best, is meant to be enjoyed. And for Bentley, it feels entirely at home.
