‘Bamboo 1947: Then and Now’ with Ai Tokeshi

Italian craftsmanship meets Japanese artistry in ‘Bamboo 1947: Then and Now,’ a special exhibition at Gucci Ginza Gallery in Tokyo exploring the evolution of the iconic silhouette at the hands of traditional artisans and contemporary artists selected by Creative Director Sabato De Sarno.

Applying traditional Ryukyuan lacquering techniques, Ai Tokeshi has created a modern expression of lacquerware on the Bamboo 1947 bags, integrating gold leafing and multiple layers of lacquer capturing the essence of Okinawa’s natural beauty.
