ARTNOIR co-founder Larry Ossei-Mensah visits the studios of Nari Ward, Anthony Akinbola, and Melissa Joseph ahead of the UBS Art Studio presentation he curated for Art Basel Miami Beach
In this episode of ‘Art in Action’, we accompany curator and co-founder of ARTNOIR, Larry Ossei-Mensah, as he visits three artists participating in the UBS Art Studio’s latest exhibition, ‘The Poetics of Dimensions’ on view during Art Basel Miami Beach 2023. Emphasizing its commitment to cultural equity in the arts, ARTNOIR spotlights a diverse group of artists, including Nari Ward, Anthony Akinbola, Sonia Gomes, Melissa Joseph, and Julianknxx. What unites the artists is their innovative use of everyday materials like shoelaces, durags, and felt, which they employ to create works that challenge norms, inspire creation, and generate dialogue. As Ossei-Mensah says in the film, ‘What I love is that all the artists are using different materials that are found in their environment, in their community, things that are familiar to us, and transforming them into these incredible art pieces.’
‘The Poetics of Dimensions’ – presented by UBS and ARTNOIR featuring Nari Ward, Anthony Akinbola, Sonia Gomes, Melissa Joseph, and Julianknxx – will be on view from December 8–10, 2023. Curated by ARTNOIR co-founder Larry Ossei-Mensah, the presentation spans two locations – the Miami Beach Convention Center and Soundscape Park at 17th Street. Larry Ossei-Mensah will also moderate a conversation, ‘The Poetics of Dimensions: Materiality and Visual Language’ with participating artists, Anthony Akinbola, Melissa Joseph, and Julianknxx on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11am.
