Luis Jácome – Saving the sacred condor

Fascinated from an early age with his country’s mountains and the condors that fly above them, Argentine biologist Luis Jácome, a 1996 Rolex Award for Enterprise Laureate, understood the ecological role of these majestic and sacred birds – and their vulnerability to extinction. For more than 30 years, the leader of the Andean Condor Conservation Project has been spearheading efforts to prevent the disappearance of these scavengers that play a key role in the environment. Combining the chicks hatched in captivity and the condors rescued, a total of 219 birds have been released into the wild since 1997. Jácome’s recognition by the Rolex Awards, a pillar of the brand’s Perpetual Planet initiative, underscored the project’s value and prestige. Discover more https://on.rolex.org/3sDXcN3
