Reversing wheels – Why red?

These are our reversing wheels. Patented in 1952, they coordinate to transmit energy to the mainspring, regardless of the direction in which the oscillating weight rotates. Thanks to them, each movement of the Perpetual rotor feeds the power reserve. Key to the automatic winding process, these tough wheels are continuously put to work. Their red colour, introduced in 1957, is a result of the surface treatment applied to the aluminium to ensure its robustness. This striking scarlet hue continues to distinguish these vital components in the discerning eyes of watch enthusiasts.
