Art Basel in Basel | Unboxing | Kaspar Müller

Eight joyful figures temporarily reside on Basel’s historic Münsterplatz_

The Swiss artist Kaspar Müller, who lives and works in Berlin, celebrates a sort of homecoming here. Having previously lived in Basel for several years, the artist presents at Parcours an ambitious piece, which is a highlight on multiple levels. Set on the large open square of the Münsterplatz, eight tall straw figures mimic generic and universally recognizable poses: squatting, pointing, crawling and so forth. Although monumental in scale, the large hay characters are once docile and provoking. They are temporary and will cease to exist once the show is over, which produces an interesting sense of empathy for non-human beings. – Samuel Leuenberger

Kaspar Müller, _8 Figuren_ (2023) is presented by Société in the Parcours sector of Art Basel in Basel. Parcours is curated by Samuel Leuenberger.
