World Braille Day, celebrated since 2019, is observed to raise awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people. We strive to make the National Museum of Qatar as accessible as possible for those with vision impairments through our tactile stations, assistive technology and braille interpretation. On this year’s World Braille Day, we invited Mr. Ikrami Ahmad, an Assistive Technology Specialist at the Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind, to help us understand Braille’s history, how it is read and its prevalence in Qatar.

منذ عام 2019، يحتفل العالم كل سنة باليوم العالمي للغة برايل، وذلك من أجل تعزيز الوعي بأهمية تلك اللغة كوسيلة للتواصل، والاعتراف الكامل لحقوق الإنسان للمكفوفين وضعاف البصر. يسعى متحف قطر الوطني أن يكون متاحًا قدر الإمكان أمام ضعاف البصر، وذلك من خلال محطات اللمس، والتقنيات المساعدة، وتقديم المعلومات والتوضيحات بلغة برايل. في اليوم العالمي للغة برايل لهذا العام، قمنا بدعوة السيد إكرامي أحمد، أخصائي التكنلوجيا المساعدة بمركز قطر الاجتماعي والثقافي للمكفوفين، لتقديم المساعدة في فهم تاريخ لغة برايل، وكيفية قراءتها وانتشارها في قطر.
