Explore The Ship by Faraj Daham, on view at Al Janoub Stadium, located in the southern, coastal city of Al Wakrah.
The Ship is a site-specific art installation inspired by the prominence of the Arabian Gulf in sea trade.
The artwork appears to be sailing towards the south, connecting man and sea.
The installation is made from wood and concrete and explores themes surrounding history, places, and people. It adopts the traditional ship-building features seen in wooden ships of the 17th and 18th century. Daham’s work is inspired by the rock inscriptions found in the primitive part of the Jebel Al Jassasiya area, located on the eastern coast of Qatar. These inscriptions include references to sea trade, carved into the artwork by Daham himself; drawing light on the prominence of the Arabian Gulf in areas of trade, transport, fishing, and pearl harvesting.

منحوتة السفينة عبارة عن تركيب فني خاص بالموقع مستوحى من مكانة التجارة البحرية في الخليج العربي
تبدو المنحوتة وكأنها تبحر باتجاه الجنوب، راسمة ذلك الارتباط بين الإنسان والبحر
تتناول منحوتة “السفينة”، المصنوعة من الخشب والخرسانة، مواضيع التاريخ والمكان والناس، وقد بناها الفنان وفقاً لخواص بناء السفن التقليدية في القرنين السابع عشر والثامن عشر
استوحى الفنان عمله من النقوش الصخرية الموجودة في الجزء البدائي من منطقة جبل الجساسية الواقع على الساحل الشرقي من قطر. وتحمل هذه النقوش إشارات إلى التجارة البحرية، وظفها الفنان في عمله الفني، مؤكداً أهمية الخليج العربي في التجارة والنقل وصيد الأسماك والغوص على اللؤلؤ
